NORTHAM ACCOMMODATION

VISIT NORTHAM WESTERN AUSTRALIA

On the banks of the Avon River, just 90 minutes from Perth is the town of Northam, the heart of the Avon Valley. Whether you are seeking adventure or just want to get away from it all, Northam makes the ideal getaway.

Heritage
Step back in time to explore Northam’s historic buildings on the historic town walk, visit Morby Cottage 1836 or the Old Railway Station Museum 1886. Agriculture in Northam first developed around 1836 as the early settlers searched for new pastures in the fertile Avon Valley. Northam grew into a substantial town in the 1890’s after it was chosen as the point of departure for the railway line to the Goldfields in 1891. The Northam Migrant Camps Photographic Exhibition at the Northam Visitor Centre tells the story of European Migration to Northam in the 1950’s.

Commerce
Northam is the commercial hub of the agricultural region of the Avon Valley and offers excellent facilities including banks, supermarkets, car repairs, accommodation, restaurants, shopping and modern medical facilities. Enjoy a meal and a drink at a local hotel or tavern, relax at a café or have a picnic at Bernard Park on the banks of the Avon River.

Lifestyle
Activities in the local area include archery, aviation, cycling, equestrian and hot air ballooning. Relax at a local winery, enjoy wildflowers in spring and Concerts in the Park in summer. Highlights of the events calendar include The Flying 50 in April, The Avon Descent in August and the Northam Agricultural Show in September.

Northam Visitor Centre is open weekdays from 9 am - 5 pm and weekends 9 am - 4 pm. The facilities include toilets and showers with disabled access and power is available for daytime use by caravan or motorhome. The Northam Migrant Camp Exhibition “A Sense of Place” is open from 9 am to 4.30pm weekdays, 9 am to 3.30 pm weekends.

The friendly staff are there to assist you with maps, brochures, accommodation bookings and train timetables. Souvenirs, art and local produce are also available.
